When you think about celebrating New Year’s Eve, you might imagine yourself at one of the biggest venues for this yearly ritual – Times Square in New York City. While this might be one of the biggest parties that celebrates the ringing in of the New Year, by no means is it the best.
Think about it this way, while you could be standing on these crowded city streets waiting for a brightly lit ball to drop from a specially designed flagpole, you’ll be there with an estimated one million other people, freezing their tails off inside these cramped quarters. On the other hand, you could be with a few hundred party animals floating on board their own boat or private yacht in the tropical, Caribbean waters a short jaunt off the coast of Cartagena.
Leave The City Life Behind
Instead of needing layers of clothing to withstand the harsh, eastern seaboard climate during December, you’ll only be wearing a skimpy bikini or other beach wear. You’ll be grabbing a pair of sunglasses, a towel and some sunscreen to enjoy this holiday on the island of Cholon instead. Naturally you’ll need to rent a boat, or even better, charter a yacht. You can stock it with plenty of champagne, booze, beer and/or snacks and head out to your Caribbean destination with other boat-bound partiers near the shores of the island of Cholon.
Ala Carte Off The Bow
Even if you don’t BYOB (bring your own booze) or food, once you’ve arrived, the locals will be more than happy to take care of your needs. Vendors from the shore will likely to come out to your vessel anchored in the warm, crystal clear, shallow waters just off the shoreline and bring you everything from fresh seafood, delicious local cuisine and offer you tropical beverages.
Even More Happening Off Deck
Another part of this truly unique partying, dining and drinking wonderland, local food and drink providers will bring a table out into the shallow waters for your own private, Caribbean-coated experience. Imagine yourself thigh-high in crystal clear, warm waters with a table set with the freshest seafood you’ll ever taste and a variety of drinks at your disposal.
Party Hearty & Smarty
Again, most rental boats and yacht providers (or packages) also come with an el captain or pilot, so you won’t need to worry about a DD (designated driver). If you don’t happen to have some rockin’ tunes on board, they’ll be plenty of nearby vessels carrying their own sound. You’ll see plenty of scantily clad “babes and dudes” dancing, drinking and just hanging out on the decks of their own boats. They’ll happily invite you to join in on the fun!
The Annual Regatta Reggaeton
Cholon and Cartagena’s annual Regatta Reggaeton also occurs during this popular holiday season. Usually the best parties happen the last weekend of December or the first weekend of January to coincide with the season. Although Regatta usually means a yacht race, the only competition happening at this event is who can get there the fastest and have the most fun.
Depending upon the exact event and location (search online for these types of venues near Cartagena), you’ll experience live music and a similar band of partiers who are simply there to enjoy the atmosphere, tropical sunshine, beaches, food and fun. These events book up fast, so you better get on it if you want to join this unforgettable adventure.
Don’t Worry – Be Happy!
Even if you don’t make it in time to ring in the New Year or experience the thrill of a Caribbean Christmas near the party island of Cholon, this type of atmosphere happens year-round. Although these holidays draw big crowds, the boat-bound partying that happens near Cholon is a non-stop, hot-spot throughout the year. You’ll find boats and yachts surrounding these shores on weekends and weekdays from January through December, year-round!
Think of a never-ending spring break and that being said, if you have plans for this yearly event later on when the weather warms up, you should consider Cartagena and Cholon as an alternative to this type of a traditional get-away.
